In the scene where Eli is fired at, but the bullets keep missing...You get a sense that this Book Eli has, must have a certain type of power which has some how connected him to the real, committed him to a purpose altering his mind. He has a certain sense of things; his movements in a fighting scene seem to be bordering on ultimate repose to attack. Unfortunately this is just not developed in the movie and it fades off.

Guess it’s hard to develop and portray an altered state of mind phenomenon without messing up the movie. It requires some interesting thoughts expressed by our main character. (Defiantly requires philosophy)

I think the script should have been defined around some interesting themes. Viewers should have some things to contemplate in that bare desert wasteland where people are true to themselves with nothing to hide behind. Maybe learn that which motivates us defines us.

Epic? Really? 4.5/5? The movie has a great 'look' and a couple really nice bad ass moments and all, but you can't ignore the shortcomings. For the same reason that Avatar is amazing, visually, technically, etc, but probably doesn't deserve a 'best picture' because it's not as well-rounded as it could be. Maybe if there's nothing else that qualifies, sure, but special effects and technical achievement aren't the only two measures of a great film. Same with 'Eli', it has some soft mushy spots (and I'm not talking emotionally) that just don't qualify for an 'epic' rating. But I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I thought this movie was very good, and i also believed that solara (mila kunis) looked very good in it (acting wise and looking wise). story was sort of just thrown at you at the start, with that "Ok but how did this happen" feel too it. But in the end i would give it a 4.5/5 . If i could fit this under a catagory, it would be put under the "epic" columns. I found Eli very badass, and you find something out about Eli in the end that just makes him seem more amazing.

Thats my two bits.

Excellent critical review and this is what I was afraid of. I'm glad we saw Avatar instead and you saved me ~$45.
