About
“A series created for the up and coming animators, combining computer animation, hand drawings and paper cut outs along with live action to make 8-15 minute-long short films.First appearing on BBC Two in 1990, Liquid Television made its American debut on MTV six months later. Such shows as Beavis and Butthead and Daria were launched from Liquid Television on MTV.” – TVRage.com
Animation, in it’s various forms, is a largely misunderstand, maligned and neglected medium. People tend to look at things like “cartoons”, video games and other creative outlets as “kid’s stuff” and dismiss it too readily. It’s not always taken seriously because of the popularity with the younger crowd and frequently because people don’t “get it.” They don’t open their minds to the themes, concepts and creativity that go into these things.
Much like British comedy to the average American, there is sometimes a bit of a creative learning curve involved in understanding what’s going on. But for those who are inquisitive and patient, there’s some fantastic humor, philosophy and.. well, let’s face it, some really weird stuff out there.
LiquidTV was a television show that appeared on MTV in the early to mid ’90s. It featured some of the most interesting and unique animations to ever hit the tube. Not all of them were classics. Not all of them were everyone’s cup o’ tea. Some outright sucked. The very fact that you had a diverse collection short videos to look forward to each week was more than me and my friends could ask for.
Periodically, I’ll see something that reminds me of the old LTV clips. Videos that you just can’t help but stare at because they’re so amazing, weird, funny, etc. There’s a certain quality those LTV clips had that still shows up in rare gems. I wanted to give them a showcase and maybe be lucky enough to have people enjoy it enough to send me more links to more videos so we can continue to share the spirit of LTV.
LTV21 is LiquidTV for the 21st century.
